The Carnival of Lanzarote is held at the same time with the Carnival in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and the other Canary Islands. This event takes place every year and is very popular between locals and tourists.

The cities of Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca all host the processions of the carnival, but on different dates.

Cabalgata de los Reyes

Cabalgata de los Reyes, meaning the Three Holy Kings or Wise Men, is held each January the 15th. Arrecife is where this festivity attains its highest peaks as to its utmost spectacular manifestations. Basically, the event comes down to a march of people accompanying three residents in the guise of Three Kings sharing sweets to the children attending the parade.

Dia de la Cruz

Dia de la Cruz is one of the most respected religious festivities in Lanzarote. The Day of the Cross is held each year at the beginning of May, and the manifestations related to this event refer to parades carrying crosses throughout Lanzarote. These crosses stand out by their lush floral decorations. Another highlight of the event refers to the fact people parade and dance dressed in traditional costumes.

Ironman Lanzarote

Ironman Lanzarote is, perhaps, one of the most popular sports events to be held on the island each year. The event does not have a fixed date, but in all cases it takes place somewhere around mid May. This is in fact a triathlon challenge, with three types of races: swimming, running and biking, amounting to more than 220 kilometers on land and almost 4 kilometers on water.
Corpus Christi

Salt farming has long been a traditional activity in Lanzarote. Due to the abundance of salt marshes and to the success of salt farming, salt has managed to penetrate the cultural life of Lanzarote, becoming the raw material of which the decorations used to embellishing the main streets on Corpus Christi day are made of. These salt decorations are the main specific highlight of this festivity which is usually held in June.

Fiesta de Nuestra Senora del Carmen is yet another popular religious event which takes hold of virtually de entire Lanzarote each mid July. La Graciosa too celebrates this holiday by embellishing the main thoroughfares with flowers. The chief manifestations implied in this event refer to the boating of statues of religious significance along the coast.
Dia San Gines

Most people around the world are unfamiliar with the name of San Gines. Yet, this half legendary saint is held in great respect in Lanzarote, since he is the patron saint of the island. This is why the events organized on this occasion, that is, at the end of August, are said to be rather ostentatious, substantiating locals’ joy. The holiday is celebrated literally throughout Lanzarote, but Arrecife is where manifestations are at their best.
